Our crack research team was back at work, digging into the broadcast schedules of 17 cable/satellite networks to compile a listing of classic TV shows airing on a regular basis in October 2019.

Our definition of “classic” is shows that premiered in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

Yabba Dabba Doo! More Flintstones on MeTV

The classic 1960s animated comedy series The Flintstones returns to broadcast TV on classic TV diginet MeTV tomorrow, September 30.

In addition to airing back-to-back episodes weeknights at 6 and 6:30PM Eastern, MeTV will be airing a 2 hour block (4 episodes) every Sunday morning from 10AM to Noon.

Recent changes in children’s E/I programming rules allowed MeTV to drop their block of “educational” programs Mystery Hunters, Beakman’s World and Bill Nye the Science Guy.

MeTV’s new Sunday morning schedule features ALF from 6-7AM, Saved By The Bell from 7AM-10AM and The Flintstones from 10AM to Noon. The revised lineup starts October 6.

Antenna TV Picks Up 5 Sitcoms for 2020

Tribune-owned classic TV Diginet Antenna TV will be adding 5 sitcoms to their schedule next year:

  • Diff’rent Strokes (January. Currently on MeTV)
  • The Facts of Life (January. Currently on MeTV)
  • Designing Women (January. Currently on GetTV)
  • NewsRadio (January)
  • Who’s The Boss? (September)

Antenna TV currently airs in 146 cities around the U.S., including WPIX 11.2 New York, KTLA 5.2 Los Angeles, WGN 9.2 Chicago, WPHL 17.2 Philadelphia and KDAF 33.2 Dallas-Fort Worth.

We’re still waiting on their Fall 2019 schedule and will post it as soon as it becomes available.

MeTV Adds Flintstones, Barnaby Jones in September

Classic TV diginet MeTV is bringing the classic 1960s animated comedy The Flintstones back to broadcast television.

MeTV will air back-to-back episodes of the stone-age sitcom from 6-7PM Eastern starting September 30, 59 years to the day of it’s original ABC primetime premiere in 1960.

Other additions to the MeTV fall schedule include the Buddy Ebsen detective series Barnaby Jones, Bat Masterson, Carol Burnett & Friends, Highway Patrol and the original Twilight Zone.

Departing the schedule are The Carol Burnett Show, Mama’s Family, Night Gallery, The New Twilight Zone and the MeTV original series Collector’s Call.

Please note the schedule below is effective September 2 and does not include The Flintstones, which won’t premiere until September 30. We’ll keep you posted of any additional changes.

Weekend changes include a shuffling of the Saturday primetime lineup, which has classic horror movie host Svengoolie moving from 10PM to 8PM Eastern.

New additions to the weekend lineup: ALF, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Facts of Life, The Fugitive, The Lucy Show, Mama’s Family, Peter Gunn, Petticoat Junction, Touched by an Angel and The Untouchables.

FETV Drops COZI, Launches New Classic Lineup

Cable-satellite network FETV (Family Entertainment Television) has ended their relationship with broadcast diginet COZI-TV and unveiled a new lineup of classic TV programming.

FETV had been simulcasting a significant amount of COZI programming, mostly on weekdays, since 2014. According to FETV General Manager Bill Airy, the license agreement with NBCUniversal-owned COZI expired and is not being renewed.

FETV’s Saturday schedule is mostly classic TV, highlighted by a 7-hour block of The Lone Ranger from 11AM-6PM. Sundays are nearly all religious programming, although they are airing back-to-back episodes of Perry Mason and Matlock from 1-5PM.

Classic TV Roll Call

We’ve lost more of our classic TV favorites recently. A sad farewell to:

  • Actor-comedian-writer Bill Dana, best known for creating his José Jiménez character who appeared on such classics as The Danny Thomas Show (Make Room for Daddy) and The Ed Sullivan Show. The memorable character was also featured on the 1963-65 sitcom The Bill Dana Show
  • Actor Jared Martin, who had a recurring role (Dusty) on the primetime soap Dallas. He also guested on such classics as CHiPs, Columbo and The Waltons
  • Actress Dina Merrill, who appeared on numerous classic TV series dating back to the 1950s. Her credits included Batman, Bonanza, The F.B.I., Hawaii Five-O and The Love Boat
  • English actor Sir Roger Moore, who played the title character Simon Templar on the British TV series The Saint from 1962-69. He’s also well-known for his starring role in 7 James Bond feature films.
  • Actor-singer Michael Parks, who guested on shows like The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Gunsmoke and Perry Mason. He starred in the 1969-70 adventure series Then Came Bronson. He also had a memorable role as Jean Renault on the 1990-91 cult classic Twin Peaks
  • English actor Peter Sallis, who appeared in all 295 episodes of the long-running Britcom Last of the Summer Wine (1973-2010)
  • Actor-producer Roger Smith, who played private eye Jeff Spencer on the classic detective series 77 Sunset Strip. He was married to actress-singer Ann Margret for 50 years
  • Actor Adam West, forever known for his title role on the iconic 1960s superhero series Batman. West also appeared on the crime drama series The Detectives and guested on countless classic shows like 77 Sunset Strip, Bonanza, Emergency!, Mannix, The Outer Limits and Perry Mason. Most recently, he voiced the character of Mayor Adam West on the animated sitcom Family Guy.

MeTV Plans Groovy Summer of Me

Classic TV diginet has announced their annual “Summer of Me” program schedule, featuring a new afternoon sitcom block (reminds me of Superstation WTBS in the 1980s) and the addition of such far-out series as ALF, Battlestar Galactica and The Outer Limits. Barry Williams (a.k.a. Greg Brady) is the official face of The Summer of Me and will be featured in promos and interstitial segments.

There are only a handful of changes to the weekend lineup. Battlestar Galactica replaces The Incredible Hulk (7PM Saturdays), while a double-run of The Outer Limits takes over the horizontal and vertical Sunday 1-3AM slot (replacing Land of The Giants and The Time Tunnel) and a double-run of Swamp Thing overpowers Planet of The Apes (5AM Sundays).

Other weekend moves include the addition of back-to-back episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show (2-3PM Sundays) and Rhoda 3-4PM Sundays) and a realigned block of Car 54 Where Are You?, The Phil Silvers Show and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (Mondays 3-5AM).
